1. The first theme park in Orlando is not Disney World
You read that correctly. One of the lesser-known facts about Orlando is that Gatorland was the city's first theme park, not Disney World. This may come as a surprise, but it is true. Gatorland started in 1949, whereas Magic Kingdom, Walt Disney Parks, and Resorts' first amusement park, launched in 1971. 2. Gatorland is also known as the Alligator Capital of the World

When a farmer from Georgia developed a thriving farm in the region in 1842, Orlando was a little village. Aaron Jernigan was the city of Orlando's first permanent settler. That is how the town got its name, Jernigan.
